Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@steammindsacademy.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

STEAM Minds Academy Corp. is a Microschool that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics into a flexible, personalized learning environment. We believe every student learns differently, and we design our programs around each child's unique interests, strengths, and needs.

We are currently in the Cognia Candidacy process and are actively working toward our Engagement Review to be granted full Accreditation. Cognia is a globally recognized accreditation body that sets rigorous standards for school quality and continuous improvement. We are proud to be on this path as a demonstration of our commitment to educational excellence.

STEAM Minds Academy is a Microschool, which means we offer a flexible, student-centered learning environment rather than a one-size-fits-all classroom model. Students receive personalized learning plans tailored to their individual interests and needs, and our STEAM-integrated curriculum encourages exploration, creativity, and real-world application from an early age. Unlike traditional schools focused primarily on standardized testing, we focus on developing the whole learner — building critical thinkers, collaborators, and innovators who are prepared for both college and careers.

As a Microschool, we offer flexible learning environments and develop a personalized learning plan specific to each student's expressed interests and needs. Our small class sizes and individualized approach allow instructors to adapt pacing, methods, and materials so every student can thrive. We work closely with families to understand each child's unique learning profile and make thoughtful accommodations where appropriate. Please contact us to discuss how we can best support your child.

STEAM Minds Academy integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics into a project-based, hands-on learning environment. Rather than teaching subjects in isolation, our curriculum connects concepts across disciplines, so students learn to think critically, collaborate, and create. We intentionally help develop and strengthen the skills students will use in real-world careers.

Unlike traditional instruction focused on memorization and standardized testing, STEAM Minds Academy emphasizes inquiry, experimentation, and design thinking. Students tackle real problems, build working projects, and present their findings. Our educators act as facilitators who guide discovery rather than lecturers who deliver information.

Our programs span coding and computer science, robotics and engineering design, mathematics enrichment, natural and physical sciences, digital arts and multimedia, critical thinking, and social-emotional learning. Each program is carefully sequenced to build on prior knowledge as students advance through grade levels.

Yes. Our curriculum is designed to complement and reinforce state academic standards, including Common Core Math and Next Generation Science Standards.

We use a project-based learning (PBL) framework grounded in the engineering design process. Students identify a problem, research solutions, prototype and test, and then iterate based on feedback. This cycle builds persistence, adaptability, and confidence alongside academic content knowledge. We also draw on a blend of other teaching methodologies, including inquiry-based learning, collaborative learning, and differentiated instruction, so that students have flexibility in how they work and can engage in the style that suits them best. We believe that embracing multiple approaches creates a richer, more inclusive learning experience for every student.

All STEAM Minds Academy Learning Facilitators are vetted educators or industry professionals with demonstrated expertise in their subject area. Many hold teaching credentials, STEM-related degrees, or professional certifications. All staff undergo background checks and ongoing professional development.

We assess each student's baseline skills at enrollment and use that data to personalize pacing and project complexity within our mixed-ability groups. Advanced students are challenged with above-grade-level material and advanced content that goes beyond their current grade level, as well as extension activities and leadership roles within their cohort — ensuring they are always growing and never waiting for others to catch up. Students who need additional support receive targeted guidance from instructors to build confidence and master foundational concepts at their own pace.

Our school model incorporates STEAM exploration in the elementary years so students can identify their areas of interest and strengths early on. Our Career Exploration program begins in middle school, where students are introduced to Career Technical Education (CTE) Career Cluster programs paired with hands-on experiences that bring the curriculum to life.

Our goal is for every student to graduate workforce-ready, with fundamental skills and knowledge. Our College and Career Guidance program equips students with the resources, mentorship, and support needed to advance in their chosen field of study and achieve their career aspirations.

We also host Career Days where professionals from STEAM industries speak to our students about their careers and share what a day in their professional life looks like, giving students a real-world window into the possibilities ahead of them.

We welcome students in grades K-12. Programs are grouped by age range and skill level to ensure a developmentally appropriate experience. Specific age requirements may apply to individual programs; please check the program listing or contact us for details.

No entrance exam is required. Enrollment is open to all students on a first-come, first-served basis. We do ask families to complete a brief intake form so we can understand each child's interests, experience level, and any learning needs before their first session.

Enrollment opens several weeks before each program cycle begins. We offer various enrollment periods throughout the year for our enrichment programs. Spots fill quickly, especially for popular programs, so we encourage families to register as early as possible. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when enrollment opens.

Yes. If a program reaches capacity, families are added to a waitlist in order of registration. We notify waitlisted families as soon as a spot becomes available and give priority to waitlisted students for subsequent enrollment cycles.

Registration is completed online via our student enrollment links located on our website. You will select the program(s) of interest and complete payment or provide proof of payment. You will receive a confirmation email with all the information you need to prepare for the first day.

Absolutely. STEAM Minds Academy is committed to inclusive, accessible programming. We work with families to understand each student's needs and make reasonable accommodations. Please contact us before submitting a Student Enrollment Application so we can discuss how we can best support your child.

Tuition and program costs vary by program type, duration, and format (in-person vs. virtual). Please visit our website or contact our office for current pricing on specific programs. We are committed to transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Tuition and program fees cover all instructional time, curriculum materials, and project supplies needed during the program. Students keep their completed projects in most programs. Any exceptions, such as specialty materials or take-home kits with additional costs, will be clearly communicated at enrollment.

We believe cost should never be a barrier to STEAM education. We offer need-based financial assistance, merit scholarships, and sibling discounts. Families interested in financial aid should complete our assistance request form at the time of registration. Funds are limited and awarded on a rolling basis.

We accept major credit and debit cards, ACH bank transfers, and, in some cases, cash or check payments made directly to our office. Payment plans are available for families who need to split tuition across multiple installments; please ask about this option during enrollment.

We are also a proud Step-Up for Students provider. Families can reserve our listed service offerings via the EMA portal.

Cancellations at least 14 days before a program begins are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations within 7-13 days of the start date receive a 50% refund. Cancellations within 6 days of the start date are generally non-refundable. If STEAM Minds Academy cancels a program, families receive a full refund or credit.

For full-time enrollment, there is a one-time registration and supply fee per school year. There are no surprise fees. Optional add-ons (such as extended care or specialty field trips) are clearly priced and entirely optional.

In addition to full-time enrollment, we offer a variety of program formats to fit different schedules and goals: after-school clubs meeting one to two times per week, weekend workshops, week-long intensive camps (offered in summer and during school breaks), and virtual live classes. We also offer private and small group sessions for families who prefer a customized experience.

We maintain small class sizes — typically 8 to 16 students per instructor — to ensure every child gets personal attention and meaningful participation in hands-on activities. Some specialized workshops may have lower caps.

We love having families as active partners in our community! There are several ways to get involved: join our STEAM Parent Group, take part in volunteer opportunities at school events and programs, and attend STEAM Parent Nights and other events hosted throughout the year. These are wonderful opportunities to connect with other families, stay informed about what your child is learning, and help shape the STEAM Minds community. Watch for announcements on our website and social channels for upcoming events, and don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter!
